Know a word before you use it
BULLYING is NOT cool guys.
The other day my cousin, who is 14 mind you, told me some boy was calling her a slut. Let's define this word shall we?
Slut: an immoral or dissolute woman; prostitute.
My cousin... a slut. Really people? A 14-never-kissed-or-been-kissed-best-kind-of-girl. I was ticked to the point of wanting to drive through the night just so I could throw a dictionary in this kids face. Not even kidding. Luckily I calmed down long enough to talk to her older brother (who had NO clue it was happening) and we figured the situation out. A LONG apology soon followed. Mission accomplished. A small mission of the big picture, but hey at least it was something.
Heres the problem that I see: people take words and others peoples feelings way too lightly nowadays. Excuse me for quoting a mainstream rapper right here, but I'm going to do it anyways:
If I was gay I would think hip-hop hates me
Have you read the YouTube comments lately?
"Man, that's gay" gets dropped on the daily
We've become so numb to what we're saying
Our culture founded from oppression
Yet we don't have acceptance for 'em
Call each other faggots
Behind the keys of a message board
A word rooted in hate
Yet our genre still ignores it
"Gay" is synonymous with the lesser
It's the same hate that's caused wars from religion
Gender to skin color, the complexion of your pigment.
Amen Macklemore, ya nailed it.
(I also think it shows complete unintelligence when you have to drop the f-bomb instead of thinking for two seconds for more appropriate words.. but I won't get into that rant right now)
ALSO.
CYBER BULLING is not cool guys!
I wish I had enough power to shut down that 'ask.fm' website. I have seen nothing but hurtful and untrue words towards people there. It gives people the freedom to anonymously ask questions to others. Yet all I see is one person tearing down another.
I mean I think it's really cool how you don't have the courage to say something in real life so you have to hide behind the internet to bring somebody down. Especially because I bet it's totally true. COME ON PEOPLE.
I need to tell my sister to delete it because it's a major problem. Here's two of the recent 'questions' on her profile.
What is wrong with high schoolers these days? It makes me terrified to start a family when this idiocy is happening. What's it going to be like in 20 years?
Not thinking about that right now.
How lucky am I that I don't have to deal with this? I haven't had a single issue with bullying since I entered the college world. Probably because people realize right away that the social side of high school is a small, tiny really, part of life and honestly nobody cares once you've graduated.
High school was a joke for me. My classmates were rude and selfish, they rarely gave me the time of day. Side note: I did transfer schools the beginning of my junior year, being the new girls is NOT fun. Sorry I didn't look like a cheerleader, but that's no excuse to pretend I didn't exist.
Whoa... bitter feelings coming out here. Moving on.
Be nice. Be an example to those around you. Show people you receive more attention and more respect for being a better person. Don't stoop to low levels because 'thats what everyone else is doing' I honestly believe everyone is kind, loving and honest. They can just get caught up with their peers or society and do what they think is the norm. BREAK THE NORM. Who's going to condemn you for being nice?
*cricket cricket*
That's what I thought.
